Connecting with Al-Shoomuk School in Yemen: Sending Resources and Letters
In the summer of 2020, Penpals4peace was able to connect with Abdul Salam Al-Amri, the founder of Al-Shoomuk school in Yemen. After learning about the lack of resources and funding available to the students, Penpals4peace sought to improve their learning experiences. We began collecting donations including school supplies, uniforms, and toys. We received an overwhelming amount of support from donors across the GTA who believed in our cause.
Around the same time, we launched a pen pal program where volunteers could write to the children at Al-Shoomuk and connect with them on a personal level. Each volunteer wrote a letter introducing themselves, their interests, and what they enjoyed learning about. After shipping both the supplies and pen pal letters to Yemen, we received pictures of the children wearing the uniforms, playing with the toys, and reading their letters.
At Penpals4peace we believe education is a right, not a privilege. We are committed to empowering children who deserve access to the resources required to reach their full potential.
